Welcome to my website! I’m Dana and I love to write. I mostly write for young adults, but I hope that people of all ages will enjoy my stories. My short story, The Silence of Sand, was chosen for adaptation into a short film performed by the Blue Man Group. I’ve also had short stories published in Encounter—The Magazine, and Family Fiction’s The Story 2014 Anthology. And my young adult novel, Abby’s Letters, releases June 2017 with Clean Reads publishing.
I am also on staff at Illuminate YA, a new YA/NA imprint of LPC books where I hope to help other writers realize their dreams.
I have a wonderful husband, three beautiful children, a stinky guinea pig, two spoiled dogs, a persnickety cat, and two screeching cockatiels. Our house is loud. We live in a small town in Virginia, where the cows outnumber the people. Not really. At least, I don’t think they do.
I have always loved writing and reading. When I was a little girl I would pretend that I was Anne Shirley (from Anne of Green Gables) and write under a forsythia bush. I thought it was a romantic spot to write and ignored the ants crawling up my legs. Besides reading, I also love running and really good coffee but not at the same time.
Oh and one more thing, I like to practice writing on you, dear reader. All the stories you find on this site are written for fun—to keep me writing. To keep me from becoming too serious. To remember why I write in the first place—and that’s to shine a light through the muck of life.
So dear reader, the stories on this site will not be perfect, but perfection is crippling. So I hope you enjoy my imperfect, fun stories.
