My family likes to watch TV together. But let me tell ya, I’m having a heck of a time finding a show that we can all watch together. Even certain superhero shows found under the “kids” section on Netflix have shown characters engaging in extremely inappropriate interactions in supply closets. Try explaining that to a nine-year-old. And quite frankly, I’m not sure that “they were looking for sticky notes” is going to cut it.
It seems there is nothing good and uplifting to watch anymore. But it’s not just TV. The same goes for movies, books, and songs. Every form of entertainment has become corrupted with one primary lie. The lie that it’s okay to do whatever you want as long as it makes you happy. Forget anyone else. Forget God.
The entertainment industry thrives on this lie. Because on the surface it makes people …well, happy. But in reality that happiness can’t last because eventually, self-indulgence has consequences. But they rarely show that.
Christian morals are mocked while depravity is applauded. But what can we do?
Well, I don’t have much control over what the entertainment industry is feeding our young people. But I can control what I write. So dear friends, I’m fighting back. My only weapons are my laptop and my God-given imagination to write stories that direct people toward God, not away.
And that’s what I intend to do.
But you don’t have to be a writer, director, or singer to make a difference in the entertainment industry. We can all make a difference by choosing to watch, listen, or read something better. Hit them where it hurts—their wallet.
That’s all I know to do. Well, that and blog about it. 🙂
